In nature, chaparral is a diverse ecosystem that thrives in a challenging environment. The Chaparall Project is a diverse assembly of student thought leaders challenging their environment.

The goal of the Chaparall Project is to collaborate with you, the student, on the evolution of the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) and Standard Reunification Method (SRM) programs and training.

You and several of your peers along with a few members of the "I Love U Guys" Foundation Board of Directors will form an advisory committee working to shape the future of the SRP and SRM school safety programs.

THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE

First...thank you for your interest in the Chaparral Project and being a member of this special advisory committee. Let's take a look at what it means to be on the committee.

ORIENTATION

We'll start with a clear understanding of the SRP/SRM programs. Member will be asked to attend an SRP, SRM or combination training either in person locally or by viewing a recording of a remote training, on their own time. Trainings are about 4.5 hours.
That gives you a chance to see/hear what we present to school and district personnel and administrators. There are often safety teams, SROs, and other staff in the training sessions. We would like you to hear exactly what they are hearing when they’re trained.

MEETINGS

The plan is to have remote meetings using Zoom once every 2 months. If an issue comes up that needs to be addressed sooner, a special meeting will be scheduled. We also plan to have 2 meetings in person. These will occur in February and July and coincide with The Briefings, our National School Safety Symposium.

Members may also attend an I Love U Guys Foundation Board meeting in the Denver area or remotely. Board meetings are held quarterly.

ROLES

Here are some possible roles and responsibilities of committee members:
  • Provide feedback on goals/initiatives/program development;
  • Share stories about what you are seeing regarding the student experience and school safety;
  • Be a student voice for the Foundation;
  • Volunteer for "I Love U Guys" Foundation media appearances;
  • Be a peer mentor/counselor;
  • Propose initiatives to drive the work forward;
  • Present/develop/outreach on the Foundation’s initiatives.

BENEFITS

In addition to the opportunity to shape the future of the SRP and SRM school safety programs, committee members may also benefit from:
  • Mentoring
  • Networking
  • Presentation opportunities
  • Media engagement training
  • Project development opportunities
  • Scholarship opportunities

TERM MEMBERSHIP

Ideally one year (Sept. 1 - Aug 30), but in this start-up year it can be any length of time.

You can stay on for a second year, and if you're graduating you are welcome to stay involved to discuss safety concerns or new ideas you find in your new environment whether it’s a workplace, gap year or further education.

Committee members may be dismissed at any time by the supervising Board of Directors for conduct not in alignment with the Foundation’s mission.

READY TO APPLY?

The Application Form is pretty simple. You'll need consent from a parent or guardian if you are under 18 and you'll need to upload a short video telling us why you're interested and what you hope to accomplish as a Committee member.
